The camera can't find them

The phone got knocked

If the iPhone moves during a time-out, the countdown pauses and says "Finding them again…". Once the phone is still it finds your child again and carries on where it was. A knock isn't counted as leaving the spot, so the countdown doesn't start again. If it can't find them, you can carry on without the camera.

The countdown keeps restarting

The countdown stops when your child leaves the spot for more than a couple of seconds (you can change this in Settings), and starts again from the beginning once they're back. The last ten seconds need them to be still before it finishes. Lots of restarts is normal in the first week.

Using the same spot every time

If you'd rather mark the spot once, go to Settings, find your child under Children, set The spot to Use a fixed spot, and draw the box. Prop the phone the same way each time. Clear the fixed spot to go back to finding them each time.

Without the camera

On the screen that asks you to put the phone down, tap Start without the camera. Manual mode runs the same countdown, and you tap Left the spot and Back in the spot yourself. It also works if you'd rather not allow the camera at all.

Ending a time-out early

Hold the end button for three seconds. It's built so a small child can't end it by tapping.
